The ESA-backed ATENA project has been kicked-off on 5th of February 2021, where AIKO and GMV partner up to provide advanced visual navigation technologies based on AI and applied to the HERA mission. The goal of this activity is to develop an Artificial Intelligence based navigation algorithm (TRL 3 at the end of the activity) with the capability to fly over an unknown terrain and achieve better navigation performances than current vision-based techniques based on unknown feature tracking.
